Woman in her 30s applying organic moisturiser to her face in the mirror

The 5-Minute Nighttime Skincare Routine I Never Skip

5 minutes - 3 skincare steps - 1 little moment for yourself.

There’s something lovely about washing away the day and taking a few quiet minutes for yourself.

And your nighttime skincare routine doesn't need to be complicated. You don't need ten different products, endless steps or a bathroom cabinet overflowing with skincare.

For me, the best night-time skincare routine is one that's simple enough to actually enjoy - and easy enough to stick to.

Here’s my 5-minute evening skincare routine

1. Gentle Cleansing

Cleansing is the perfect place to start your nighttime skincare routine.

Throughout the day, our skin comes into contact with makeup, SPF, pollution, sweat and everyday impurities. Cleansing in the evening gives your skin a fresh start before you settle down for the night.

I use our hormone balancing Organic Rose Geranium Soap because it gently cleanses the skin without stripping away its natural oils. These oils help your skin retain moisture, leaving it feeling clean, soft and comfortable rather than tight and dry.

I love taking a couple of minutes extra to massage rose scented lather into my skin while breathing in my favourite essential oil aroma.

Think of it as washing away the day - not just washing your face.

2. Add a little hydration

Next, I like to give my skin some extra hydration.

Well-hydrated skin tends to look fresher, smoother and more radiant, which is why skin hydration is such an important part of a simple skincare routine.

I love Organic Rose Water Mist. It not only gives my skin an instant boost of hydration, but the beautiful natural properties of rose water can also help refresh, soothe and calm the skin, leaving it feeling soft and beautifully refreshed.

I love spritzing it over my face after cleansing, as it helps prepare the skin and allows the products that follow to absorb and sink in more easily.

3. Moisturise and nourish

Now it's time to lock in that moisture.

My skin can be a little dry, so I follow up with a little Rose Geranium Light Cream. I like to keep my cleanser and moisturiser from the same aroma range because each New Dawn aroma range is carefully formulated around a particular skin type. Using products from the same range means you can build a simple routine where each product complements the next.

If your skin feels like it needs extra nourishment, a few drops of facial oil can be a lovely final step.

Warm it between your fingertips, gently press it into your damp skin and take a moment to massage your face and neck.

It only takes a minute, but it turns an everyday skincare routine into a little ritual.

And one more thing that isn't a product at all…

Put the products down.

Take a deep breath.

Relax your shoulders.

Give yourself a moment of deep breathing, bringing to mind three things that you appreciated about your day and having a smile to yourself before getting under the covers.

I don't think skincare should only be about achieving glowing skin.

It's also about feeling good in those last few minutes before bedtime ensuring a good night's sleep.

Making your evening skincare routine your own

Everyone's skin is a little different, so it's worth knowing where you can flex the routine.

If your skin tends to run dry, or turns tight and dull once the colder months arrive, swap your usual moisturiser for a richer cream. Our Organic Rich Cream is designed for exactly this - a deeper, more nourishing formula that works while you sleep, so you wake up with skin that feels properly replenished rather than just refreshed. I tend to switch to it every winter, and my skin thanks me for it.

Oily or combination skin? Sometimes you can skip the moisturiser altogether and let the facial oil do the work.

And on the nights you're short on time - because let's be honest, some nights you just want to fall into bed - a cleanse and a spritz of facial mist is better than nothing. Little and often always beats perfect and occasional.

You really don't need a complicated skincare routine

There's so much choice when it comes to skincare now.

New ingredients.
New trends.
New "must-have" products.

It can be tempting to keep adding more.

But sometimes, a simple natural skincare routine is all you need:

Cleanse → Hydrate → Moisturise → Nourish

The most important thing is finding products that work well for your skin and creating a routine you genuinely enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a night-time skincare routine take?

Just five minutes is enough - cleanse, hydrate, moisturise, and take a breath. You don't need a ten-step routine to see the benefits of consistent care.

What order should I apply my skincare products in?

As a general rule, go from lightest to heaviest: cleanser first, then a hydrating mist, then moisturiser, and facial oil last to seal everything in.

Can I use a facial mist instead of a toner?

Yes - a natural facial mist, like our Organic Rose Water Mist, can replace a traditional toner. It hydrates and preps the skin without the alcohol or astringent ingredients found in some toners.

How should I adjust this routine for dry or sensitive skin?

If your skin runs dry or feels reactive, don't skip the facial oil step - a few extra drops can help reinforce your skin barrier overnight. For oilier skin types, a quick mist and a little light moisturiser or face oil may be all you need.

Should I use facial oil every night?

Not necessarily. Some people love it nightly, others prefer it a few times a week or only in colder months when skin needs extra nourishment. Let your skin be the guide.

Can this routine work in the morning too?

Absolutely. Cleanse, mist and moisturise, then finish with a broad-spectrum SPF if you're heading outside for longer than 20 mins. Sun protection is an important part of everyday skincare.

Can skincare really be part of self-care?

Yes. Five minutes to slow down, breathe and care for your skin can be a small daily reset - not just for your complexion, but for you.

I came across a testimonial online about Priest Alaska’s spiritual services and decided to give it a try. After losing my job during COVID, I was going through a very difficult period and was looking for hope and a fresh start. I reached out to Priest Alaska for spiritual help to win the lottery Powerball, and I was given lottery numbers to try. To my surprise, I won $2,000 000 ($2million) on my first play. Since then, I’ve continued seeking his guidance, and has been good I am a millionaire now. I’m grateful for the experience and help I’ve received.
