How to make natural air freshener
Why is making your own natural air freshener better than store-bought?
Creating your own natural air freshener is an absolute game-changer! Not only does it bring a burst of feel-good aromatherapy into your space, but it also packs a powerful punch of freshness without any harsh chemicals. By crafting your own, you're in the driver's seat, customizing scents that reflect your personality and preferences. Plus, it's an eco-friendly choice that reduces wasteful packaging. Especially eco-friendly if you use organic essential oil promoting organic farming with 50% more wildlife. With simple ingredients like essential oils and water, making your own air freshener is a fun and rewarding project that leaves your home smelling naturally fresh in seconds. So why settle for store-bought when you can infuse your surroundings with your own signature scent, making every inhale a joyful experience?
What you will need to make your own natural air freshener
- 8 ounce (250ml) spray bottle
- Funnel (optional)
-
2 tablespoons vodka or rubbing alcohol
- 150ml filtered water
- 10–40 drops of essential oil(s) Peppermint, Lemongrass, Lavender, etc
How to make a natural air freshener
- Pour the vodka into an 8 ounce spray bottle. Add 10-40 drops of your desired essential oil(s).
- Let the oils sit for 5 minutes, and then shake well. Next add the water.
- Shake again and spray!
- Before each use, it's essential to give the spray bottle a gentle shake to ensure the even distribution of essential oils within the liquid before spraying.
You can make the scent as strong as you want by altering the amount of essential oil.
Lavender, Peppermint, Lemongrass and Rose Geranium make great air fresheners, but you can use any essential oil combination (or just one) that smells good to you. I like to experiment with different blends according to my mood, the season, or time of day.
It's fun to come up with your own special blends. Here are a few of my favourites. As with any essential oil blend recipe, tweak the ratios to suit your own needs and preferences.

Natural air freshener FAQ
How long do natural air fresheners last?
A natural air freshener will last up to two weeks in the fridge. It's good practice to refresh or replenish the air freshener as needed to maintain a consistent level of fragrance in your space.
Do you have to use filtered water to make a natural air freshener?
No, but tap water contains chemicals and may affect the smell of your room spray.
Why does my natural air freshener look cloudy?
If your spray looks cloudy don't worry. It's just what happens sometimes when you combine particular ingredients. It will not affect the quality or aroma of the spray.
Why doesn't my natural air freshener have a stronger smell?
Natural air fresheners are meant to be used as a quick air freshening boost. If you want a stronger smell, just add more organic essential oils.
