Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefits for Skin and Hair

Tea Tree Essential Oil is renowned for its antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic (germ killer) and antiviral properties.

There are many benefits and uses of this popular oil. Organic Tea tree oil is a highly concentrated extract and is a favoured ingredient in skin and hair care products. Its natural healing properties make it a valuable addition to skincare and haircare routines.

What is Tea Tree Oil good for?

Derived from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant native to Australia, organic tea tree oil is a powerful and highly regarded natural antiseptic. Possessing outstanding antibacterial and antifungal qualities, this essential oil has played a crucial role in traditional medicine for centuries, earning acclaim for its impressive efficacy in offering effective solutions for skin and hair problems.

What is Tea Tree Oil used to treat?

Applied externally, tea tree oil is commonly utilized for the treatment of minor cuts, wounds and skin infections. Its strong antibacterial attributes work to purify the afflicted areas, making it a good choice for treating acne and other bacterial infections. Also, the antifungal characteristics of tea tree oil make it efficient in combating fungal skin conditions such as athlete's foot or nail fungus.

  • Antibacterial Action: Tea tree oil has strong antibacterial properties, helping to combat and prevent bacterial infections on the skin.
  • Antifungal Properties: It is effective against various fungi, making it beneficial for addressing issues like athlete's foot or nail fungus.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Tea tree oil can help reduce inflammation, making it potentially useful for conditions such as acne or insect bites.
  • Acne Treatment: Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it a popular natural remedy for acne, helping to reduce breakouts and inflammation.

  • Skin Cleansing: Tea tree oil can act as a natural cleanser, helping to remove dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin.
  • Relief from Itchiness: It often provides relief from itching and discomfort associated with various skin conditions.
  • Dandruff and Scalp Issues: Tea tree oil is commonly used in shampoos to address dandruff and dry scalp. Its antifungal properties can help combat the yeast that contributes to dandruff.
  • Wound Healing: Due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil can aid in the healing process of minor wounds, cuts and abrasions.
  • Tea tree essential oil is a natural remedy for: Acne, Itchy Skin and Scalp, Dandruff, Pimples, Milia, Oily Skin/Hair, Blackheads, Fungal Infections, Skin Infections, Keratosis Pilaris, Head Lice Prevention, cuts, grazes, sore throats and much more.

Can you put Tea Tree Oil directly on the skin?

Yes, applying organic tea tree essential oil to the skin is safe, but it's important to perform a patch test before applying to ensure your unique skin is tolerant. It might cause irritation in people with allergies or very sensitive skin.

Research on tea tree oil has focused on its external application exclusively. Avoid swallowing it, as oral ingestion can lead to toxicity.

How to use Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil uses for skin

Using a Tea Tree oil cleanser on your skin can be beneficial due to its natural antibacterial and antifungal properties. Tea Tree oil helps cleanse the skin, unclog pores and reduce acne-causing bacteria. It may also assist in soothing inflammation and promoting a clearer complexion, making it a popular choice for individuals dealing with acne or oily skin.

Additionally, tea tree oil cleansers are often used for their refreshing and invigorating scent, providing a pleasant and therapeutic cleansing experience.

Tea Tree Soap Cleanser

Using Tea Tree Oil neat on the skin (undiluted) can offer several benefits due to its potent properties:

Simply add a drop to a cotton bud or clean finger and apply directly to the desired area.
  • Acne/Milia: A tiny amount of this oil applied individually to each acne spot, bump or milia after washing and moisturising, works the best. Apply with a clean finger or cotton bud sparingly and be especially careful when applying close to sensitive areas e.g. eyes. If concerned dilute Tea Tree oil with a little of the light cream before applying.
  • Cuts and sores: Apply a small amount of neat tea tree oil directly to the affected area using a cotton swab, ensuring the skin is clean and unbroken, but exercise caution to prevent irritation.

Tea Tree Oil uses for hair and scalp

Using a tea tree oil shampoo can help cleanse the scalp, removing impurities and excess oil while also promoting a healthy environment for hair growth. Additionally, tea tree oil can provide relief from dandruff, soothe an itchy scalp and scalp acne. Using a tea tree oil shampoo may contribute to overall scalp health and the maintenance of clean, revitalized, healthy hair.

Treating your Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) naturally

Treating your Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) naturally

Managing Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) poses an array of challenges, but incorporating natural remedies and self-care practices into your strategy can aid in symptom relief and reduce the frequency of flare-ups.

What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

Hidradenitis Suppurativa, often called HS, is a skin condition that causes painful bumps and boils to develop under the skin. These bumps or abscesses can be found in areas where skin rubs together, like the armpits, groin and buttocks. They can rupture, leading to the development of tunnels beneath the skin, which can cause further inflammation and scarring. HS is not only physically uncomfortable but can also have a significant impact on a person's quality of life, often causing embarrassment and emotional distress. While the exact cause of HS is not fully understood, it is believed to involve inflammation of the hair follicles and is more common in individuals with a family history of the condition.

Can Hidradenitis Suppurativa be cured?

Hidradenitis suppurativa, or HS, currently has no known cure, however lifestyle changes and natural treatments can help manage the symptoms and reduce flare-ups. While HS may not go away completely, with proper care, many people can find relief and better control of their symptoms, greatly improving their quality of life.

Which Essential Oils are good for HS?

Tea Tree Essential Oil and Benchmark Thyme Essential Oils are among the recommended options for managing Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). These essential oils possess natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can aid in soothing the skin, reducing discomfort, and preventing infection. When diluted properly, Tea Tree and Benchmark Thyme Essential Oils can be applied topically to affected areas to help alleviate the symptoms of HS.

What is Benchmark Thyme?

Benchmark Thyme Oil is the result of many years of research and analysis into finding the best combination of different Thyme plants for skin application. It is a uniquely formulated blend of Thyme oils derived from four thyme cultivars. While certain aroma-chemicals such as terpinen-4-ol are present in Tea Tree oil and others like linalool can be found in normal Thyme oil, it is only in Benchmark Thyme that these and numerous other aroma-chemicals synergistically converge, making it truly unparalleled. This unique blend is powerful against bacteria but still gentle on the skin.

While you might associate this fragrant herb with the kitchen, it provides more than just flavour for your roast potatoes - there are a huge range of benefits that Benchmark Thyme can have on your body and mind.

How do you treat HS without medication?

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can be challenging to manage, but there are some self-care strategies that may help alleviate symptoms and improve your comfort:

    1. Keep the affected area clean: Cleanse your skin using an antimicrobial soap or wash, as it aids in diminishing the presence of bacteria on your skin. With reduced bacterial activity, you may experience a decrease in the frequency of flare-ups.

    Benchmark Thyme Soap

    2. Apply an antimicrobial cream with Aloe Vera: Antimicrobial cream can be an effective step in soothing the discomfort associated with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). These creams are formulated to combat harmful bacteria that can exacerbate HS symptoms, providing relief and promoting healing. You can add a few drops of antimicrobial Benchmark Thyme or Tea Tree Essential Oil to the matching Light Moisturiser to increase it's potency.

    3. Warm Compresses: Applying warm, moist compresses to HS-affected areas can help reduce pain and promote drainage of abscesses. Use a clean, warm, damp cloth for this purpose. Adding a few drops of Tea Tree or Benchmark Thyme Essential Oil to a bowl of warm water to dampen a cloth can help sooth and pacify inflammation.

    4. Avoid Irritants: Wear loose-fitting clothing made of natural fabrics and washed in non-bio detergent to reduce friction and irritation.

    5. Exercise caution when shaving or waxing:  Dermatologists typically advise HS patients to avoid waxing altogether, as it can lead to skin irritation and potentially exacerbate the condition. If shaving, try using Tea Tree or Benchmark Thyme Conditioner or Soap.

    6. Opt for a Natural Organic Deodorant: Certain products can be overly agressive on sensitive HS-prone skin. Seek out a deodorant that lacks alcohol, baking soda, parabens, dyes, or fragrances. These components may lead to skin irritation and trigger HS outbreaks. I love using this one for my sensitive skin:

    Natural deodorant

    7. Maintain a healthy weight: Excess body weight can worsen HS symptoms. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise may help alleviate some of the discomfort.

    8. Dietary Considerations: Some individuals find that certain foods, like dairy or processed sugars, can trigger HS flares. Keeping a food diary may help identify potential triggers. However, it's crucial to consult a healthcare provider, dietitian or kinesiologist before making significant dietary changes.

    9. Stress Management: Stress can exacerbate HS symptoms, so consider incorporating relaxation techniques like deep breathing exercises, yoga, or meditation into your daily routine.

Remember that HS varies from person to person, and what works for one individual may not work for another. Our HS Sample Pack contains both Benchmark Thyme and Tea Tree products in sample sizes. Ideal for doing patch tests on your unique skin.

    What triggers HS Flare-ups?

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) flare-ups can be triggered by a variety of factors. These triggers may include friction or chafing in the affected areas, excessive sweating, hormonal changes, obesity, smoking, and genetics. Moreover, stress, certain foods, and clothing choices can also play a role in exacerbating symptoms. Identifying and managing these triggers is crucial for individuals with HS, as it can help reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups and improve their overall quality of life.

How to get rid of head lice naturally

How to get rid of head lice naturally

If you've ever found yourself scratching your head because of head lice, you're not alone.

Head lice is every parents nightmare and without a doubt, one of the most unwelcome visitors. These minuscule creatures can turn our world upside down, causing endless itching, discomfort, and let's face it, social embarrassment. But before you throw your hands up in despair, let's dive deeper into the world of head lice and explore the reasons why they're such a nuisance and how to conquer the inconvenience of head lice once and for all.

    What are head lice?

Head lice are a type of parasitic insect. They are very small, typically measuring only a few millimeters in length when fully grown. They are specially adapted to live on the scalp and in the hair of humans and can cause itching and discomfort. These parasites are most commonly found in school-aged children, but they can affect people of all ages. Head lice are highly contagious and can spread through close personal contact, such as sharing hats, combs, or pillows. While they are not a sign of poor hygiene, treating head lice promptly is essential to prevent the spread to others and to alleviate the itching and irritation they cause.

Does natural head lice treatment work?

Natural head lice treatments are often considered superior to supermarket products for several compelling reasons. Firstly, natural treatments often target not only the lice but also their eggs, increasing their effectiveness. Secondly, repeated use of commercial products can lead to lice developing resistance, while natural remedies offer a less predictable environment for lice to adapt to. Additionally, natural remedies typically contain fewer harsh chemicals, reducing the risk of skin irritation or allergies, especially in sensitive individuals, such as children. Moreover, they are environmentally friendly, as they avoid the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers that can harm ecosystems.

How to get rid of head lice naturally?

Tea Tree Oil is widely regarded as one of the most effective natural treatments for head lice. Its potent antimicrobial and insecticidal properties make it a formidable adversary for these parasites. When applied to the scalp and hair, tea tree oil kills the lice in their nymph and adult stages, disrupting their life cycle. Furthermore, its soothing properties can alleviate the itching and irritation caused by lice infestations.

How to use Tea Tree Oil to treat head lice:

    1. For bad infestations add our organic Tea Tree Essential Oil to our Organic Tea Tree Shampoo before application. Approx. 8-12 drops in a 100ml size or 20-30 in a 250ml bottle. Shake bottle thoroughly to mix.
    2. Wet hair and apply normal amount of shampoo. Massage into scalp for at least 2 minutes using your fingertips and getting right through to the whole scalp but without scratching it. Foaming is not important but getting shampoo/soap right through to the scalp is.
    3. Rinse thoroughly and apply shampoo/soap for second time, again massaging right into scalp. For this second application use lots of shampoo, massaging it into the scalp a little at a time so that it does not drip off. Foaming should be kept to a minimum as you are trying to suffocate the head lice and foam is mainly air.
    4. Wrap head securely in a towel, leave for at least 1 hour to kill as many lice as possible before rinsing thoroughly.
    5. Apply our organic Tea Tree Conditioner and massage with the fingertips right through to the scalp. Leave on scalp for 2 minutes. (This will also make it easier when combing the hair through.)
    6. Using a special nit comb, comb out dead/dying lice and any lice eggs before rinsing thoroughly.
    7. Leave hair to dry naturally if possible.
    8. Repeat 8 days after first application.
    9. Treat the whole family at least to begin with.

Regular use of these products should keep nits away as well as keep hair and scalps healthy and looking good naturally without any harsh chemicals.

    Natural Head Lice Treatment

What keeps head lice away from hair?

Tea Tree Oil scent repels nits, to effectively keep head lice away, a two-pronged approach can be highly effective. Firstly, replacing your shampoo with our Organic Tea Tree Shampoo can help eliminate these pesky insects. Tea tree oil's inherent insect-repelling qualities make it a superb option for combating head lice infestations. Apply the Tea Tree Shampoo generously to wet hair, massage it in and let it sit for the recommended duration as per the product instructions. Secondly, to prevent re-infestation and the spread of lice, it's essential to keep long hair tied back. Lice typically spread through direct head-to-head contact, and restraining hair in a bun, ponytail or plait can minimise this risk. Regularly inspecting hair and using a fine nite comb to remove any remaining lice or eggs can also be part of your proactive strategy in winning the battle against these tiny intruders.

Is Organic Skincare better for you?

Is Organic Skincare better for you?

Did you know that your skin is like a super-absorbent sponge? It's the largest living and breathing organ on your body, absorbing around 60% of whatever you put on it. That means whatever you apply on your skin ends up in your bloodstream and circulates throughout your entire body. But here's the kicker: a lot of non-organic skincare products contain some pretty nasty toxins.

Now, imagine knowing exactly what's in those products. You'd probably think twice before using them, right? That's why more and more people are making the switch to organic skincare products.

    What is Organic Skincare?

Organic skincare refers to products made from natural, organic ingredients. These ingredients are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The absence of these harmful chemicals in the cultivation of raw materials ensures that organic skincare is gentler on your skin and has a lower impact on the environment.

Are Organic Products Better For your Skin?

The short answer is yes! Organic skincare products are known for being gentle and less likely to cause skin irritation. They contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, and Essential Oils that soothe and nourish the skin. Traditional skincare products often contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives that are absorbed through your skin. Our skin absorbs 60-70% of everything we put on it and it takes 26 seconds to do so directly into your bloodstream without any filters. Skincare made just from certified organic ingredients eliminates these toxins, reducing the risk of adverse reactions. Organic ingredients also tend to be richer in essential vitamins and antioxidants, which can help rejuvenate your skin and nourish your body naturally. For example, vitamin E in organic oils can promote skin repair and hydration.

    Why choose organic skincare?

People are drawn to organic skincare for various reasons, and health and environmental considerations top the list. Consumers are becoming more aware of the potential harm posed by synthetic chemicals found in conventional skincare products. Many individuals are adopting a more holistic approach to their beauty routine, aligning their choices with their values of sustainability and environmental stewardship. Organic skincare products often have a natural and subtle fragrance, which appeals to those who prefer a more authentic sensory experience.

    Environmental Benefits of Organic Skincare

Organic farming methods avoid the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides, which can contaminate water sources and harm aquatic ecosystems. By choosing organic skincare, you indirectly support cleaner water systems. Organic farming practices also prioritise soil health through crop rotation and natural fertilisers, improving soil quality and biodiversity. Healthy soils are essential for long-term sustainability.

Organic skincare brands like New Dawn Organic Skin and Hair Care are deeply committed to prioritising the well-being of the environment, suppliers, animals, and people at all stages of the skincare product lifecycle. Choosing skincare products that are not harmful to your health and the environment has many important benefits for you and the world.

    How to Choose Organic Skincare

When venturing into the world of organic skincare, it's essential to make informed choices.

Here are some tips to help you select the right products:

    1. Look for Certification: Certified organic products carry labels from reputable organisations like the USDA, Ecocert, or COSMOS. These certifications ensure that the product meets strict organic standards. All our products are made using only certified organic ingredients.
    2. Read Ingredient Lists: Check the ingredient list for recognisable, natural ingredients. Avoid products with long lists of synthetic chemicals or unpronounceable additives.
    3. Skin Type Consideration: Select products tailored to your skin type. New Dawn Organic Skin and Hair Care offers a wide range of solutions for various skin needs, from acne through to menopause skin.
    4. Patch Testing: Although organic products are natural, everyone’s skin is unique. Before fully incorporating a new product into your routine, perform a patch test to ensure your skin reacts positively. Sample Sizes are ideal for this.

    Gardening as a family activity

5 Essential Tips for Nurturing Your Gardener's Hands

Gardening is a rewarding and fulfilling activity that allows us to connect with each other and with nature whilst creating beautiful outdoor spaces. However, the physical demands of gardening can take a toll on our hands, leaving them dry, rough, and in need of some extra care.

Here's our top tips for gardeners to maintain healthy and beautiful hands while indulging in their favourite pastime!

    1. Embrace the Power of Gloves

Gloves are an indispensable accessory for any gardener. They not only protect your hands from thorns, cuts, and scratches but also shield them from harsh chemicals, dirt and UV rays. Invest in a good pair of gardening gloves that provide ample grip and flexibility. Choose gloves made of durable materials such as leather or synthetic fabrics designed specifically for gardening. Regularly clean your gloves to remove any accumulated dirt or chemicals, and replace them when they show signs of wear and tear.

    2. Use a Gentle Moisturising Hand Wash

Frequent hand washing is essential for maintaining hygiene whilst gardening. However, harsh soaps can strip your hands of their natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Instead, opt for a gentle moisturising hand wash that cleanses your hands without causing excessive dryness. Look for products that contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and Lavender that have soothing and antiseptic properties to help restore moisture to the skin and protect it from infection.

    Lavender hand wash

    3. Hydrate with a rich Hand Cream

Frequent exposure to water, soil, and sun can cause your skin to lose its natural moisture, leading to dryness and cracking. To counteract this, make moisturising a part of your gardening routine. After every gardening session, wash your hands thoroughly with a mild cleanser, pat them dry gently, and then apply a rich and nourishing hand moisturiser. Look for products that contain ingredients like shea butter, aloe vera or coconut oil, as they provide deep hydration and help replenish the skin's moisture barrier.

    Lavender hand cream

    4. Don't Neglect Your Nails

Gardening tasks can take a toll on your nails as well. The constant contact with soil and debris can lead to dirt accumulation, ragged nails and the risk of fungal infections. To protect your nails, keep them trimmed short and avoid sharp or pointed shapes. When it comes to nails Lavender is your friend. It has a calming, soothing scent, and its antifungal and antiseptic properties can help protect your nails against infection. Mix a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil with a little olive oil and massage it into your nails and cuticles.

A great trick is to scrape your nails over a bar of soap before you start gardening, so there’s no room underneath for dirt and bacteria.

Try our Lavender Soap made with Organic Lavender Essential Oil, Aloe Vera and Glycerine. This soap bar is antifungal, antiseptic and antibacterial.

After gardening, clean your nails thoroughly using a nail brush and gentle soap, paying attention to the undersides. Moisturise your cuticles regularly to prevent your nails becoming dry and brittle.

    Lavender Essential Oil

    5. Treat Your Hands Like Your Face

Just as you prioritise skin care for your face, it's important to extend the same level of care to your hands. If you're not wearing gloves apply sunscreen with at least SPF 20 to your hands, and reapply every two hours if you're working outdoors for an extended period. Additionally, exfoliate your hands once a week to remove ingrained dirt, dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.

Add a teaspoon of sugar to your hand wash, and massage in before rinsing.

As a dedicated gardener, you don't have to sacrifice the health and beauty of your hands for the love of your hobby. By incorporating these practices into your gardening routine, you can maintain healthy, beautiful hands that are ready to tackle any gardening task.

    Refillable Skin and Hair Care

    Refillable Skin and Hair Care

Why throw away a bottle when you can reuse it? The popularity of refillable products is steadily increasing. More of us are becoming aware of the advantages to our environment and our bank balance.

This blog highlights the benefits of transitioning to refillable products and the solutions New Dawn provides to ensure a seamless and affordable way to embrace sustainability and enjoy the savings it provides.

    Using refillable products is:

    1. Good value for money

    2. Environmentally friendly

    3. Convenient and accessible

Why are refillable products good value?

Refillable products offer long-term cost effectiveness due to their reusable nature. By refilling you can avoid the recurring expense of paying for the container. Additionally, refillable options often come in larger quantities at proportionally lower prices.

As an example: *Our 1L Patchouli Shampoo & Gel Wash costs £44 to purchase and provides 4 refills for our 250ml bottles making each refill £11, saving you a whopping £19.40. There is the same saving on all our organic Shampoo & Gel Washes and organic Liquid Soaps/Washes. There's a saving of £20.40 on our organic Hair Conditioner and £28.40 on our Light Creams!

    It's all about sustainability.

In the UK alone we use 7.7 billion plastic bottles per year. That’s an average of 117 bottles per person, per year. Despite a ‘War on Plastic’ we recycle just 45% of plastics in total. That means 55% of all our plastic waste ends up in landfill, or the ocean.

Having done our research we believe that our 1 Litre and 5 Litre containers are the most eco-friendly way of containing skin and hair care products:

    • They are made using recycled plastic.
    • They have the strength to be refilled many times.
    • One bottle does so many jobs really well. Our Shampoo & Gel Wash has ingredients that work wonders on your face as well as your body and hair.
    • One bottle of Light Cream beautifully moisturises your face, hands and body and makes a wonderful Aftersun lotion. I have even used it very successfully as a hair conditioner.
    • One bottle of Hair Conditioner not only conditions your hair but your skin too when you use it for shaving.
    • Plastic has a lower environmental footprint than glass, cartons and aluminium.

When you choose to refill you are contributing to the conservation of our planet's natural resources and helping minimize the environmental impact associated with manufacturing, packaging and disposing of single-use items.

We believe, the fact that the products inside our containers are organic has to make your decision to refill them, the most sustainable choice you can make.

How are they convenient and accessible?

By embracing refillable products, you can enjoy the convenience of easily replenishing supplies of products that work well for you without having to search for and purchase new items each time. Not only that but, as explained above you have the convenience of only having to buy one product to do several skin and hair care jobs really well.

    About our refill service

To use our refill service you will need to purchase a 1 Litre or 5 Litre container of your favourite product. Natural vs Synthetic Fragrances

    Natural vs Synthetic Fragrances

Exploring the Differences Between Synthetic Fragrances and Natural Essential Oils

Synthetic fragrances and natural essential oils are two very different types of scents that can be used in a variety of products, including perfumes, soaps, personal care, cleaning products and candles.

To understand the differences between synthetic and natural fragrances we will discuss:

    1. What are synthetic fragrances
    2. What harms can come from synthetic fragrances
    3. What are natural fragrances
    4. Associations with aromatherapy
    5. How natural fragrances are more sustainable
    6. How to avoid synthetic fragrances
    7. Choosing products with natural fragrances

    What are Synthetic Fragrances?

Synthetic fragrances or parfum are made up of manufactured chemicals, used to mimic the scents of natural substances like flowers, fruits, and spices. These chemicals are normally not listed on product labels, as fragrance blends are considered trade secrets.

This lack of transparency makes it challenging for you as a consumer to know what chemicals you are being exposed to and make informed decisions about what products you use.

What harm do the chemicals found in synthetic fragrances pose?

The chemicals found in synthetic fragrances have been linked to a range of health problems, including allergies, asthma, hormonal disruptions, and even cancer. For instance, phthalates, a group of chemicals used to make fragrances last longer, have been found to disrupt hormone levels, causing developmental and reproductive problems in animals.

Research also suggests that phthalates may have similar effects in humans, with exposure during pregnancy potentially leading to adverse effects on the development of the fetus.

    What are Natural Fragrances?

Natural fragrances are scents that are derived from naturally occurring substances such as essential oils, plant extracts, and other botanical sources. Natural Organic fragrances/essential oils offer a range of benefits, including being environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and gentle on the skin.

    Associations with aromatherapy

Natural fragrances are often associated with aromatherapy, which is the use of scents to promote physical and emotional well-being. Many essential oils used in natural fragrances are believed to have therapeutic properties that can help to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance mental clarity.

    Organic fragrances are more sustainable

Natural organic fragrances are considered to be more sustainable and eco-friendly than synthetic fragrances, as they do not contribute to the pollution of the environment or harm wildlife. Using organic essential oil fragrances supports organic farming and promotes sustainable agriculture, which benefits the planet and therefore ourselves.

    How to avoid synthetic chemicals

Choosing natural fragrances with organic essential oils in personal care and cleaning products is a simple and effective way to avoid harmful chemicals while enjoying their scent and unique benefits.

Essential oils are derived from plants and are often used in aromatherapy, skincare, and cleaning products. They are free from synthetic chemicals, making them safe and actually beneficial to your health and wellbeing.

Essential oils have many benefits beyond their scent. Some essential oils, like lavender and chamomile, have calming properties that can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Tea tree oil is a powerful antimicrobial agent, making it an excellent ingredient in acne skin care treatment and cleaning products. Peppermint oil has a refreshing and invigorating scent and can help alleviate headaches and migraines. Benchmark Thyme is antiviral and antibacterial.

    Unscented Skin and Hair Care

How are natural fragrances more sustainable?

Using natural fragrances with essential oils in personal care and cleaning products not only benefits your health but also the environment. Synthetic fragrances contain chemicals that do not break down easily, polluting the air, water, and soil. On the other hand, essential oils are biodegradable and do not harm the environment.

Natural Fragrance Skin and Hair Care

    Choosing products with natural fragrances

When shopping for personal care and cleaning products, it is important to look for those that use natural fragrances with essential oils. However, it can be challenging to find products that are truly natural, as many companies use terms like "natural" and "organic" on their labels without meeting any standards.

    What certifications to look for

To ensure that you are buying genuinely organic products, look for products that contain a high percentage of organic ingredients certified by trusted organizations like USDA Organic, Ecocert, or COSMOS. By making small changes, you can take better care of yourself, your family and the planet.

Folliculitis is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, usually due to a bacterial or fungal infection. It can occur anywhere on the body where hair grows, but is most commonly seen on the face, scalp, neck, chest, back, buttocks, and legs.

What are the symptoms of Folliculitis?

Symptoms of folliculitis can vary depending on the severity and location of the infection, but typically include small, red bumps or pimples around the hair follicle. These bumps can be itchy, tender, or painful, and may be filled with pus or other fluids. In more severe cases, folliculitis can cause scarring or permanent hair loss.

    What triggers Folliculitis?

There are several types of folliculitis, each with its own specific causes and symptoms. Some of the most common types include:

    1. Bacterial folliculitis: Caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, this type of folliculitis can occur anywhere on the body and is characterized by small, pus-filled bumps that may be red and swollen.

    2. Hot tub folliculitis: Also known as pseudomonas folliculitis, this type of folliculitis is caused by bacteria that thrive in warm, moist environments such as hot tubs, spas, or swimming pools. Symptoms typically include small, red bumps that may be itchy or painful.

    3. Pityrosporum folliculitis: Caused by a type of yeast known as Malassezia, this type of folliculitis typically occurs on the upper back, chest, and shoulders. Symptoms include small, itchy, red bumps that may be surrounded by a white halo.

    4. Razor bumps: Also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, this type of folliculitis is caused by ingrown hairs that occur after shaving. Symptoms include small, red bumps that may be painful or itchy, and can lead to scarring or hyperpigmentation over time.

How to get rid of Folliculitis?

Treatment for folliculitis depends on the type and severity of the infection. In mild cases, self-care measures such as daily washing of the affected area with a natural antibacterial liquid or solid soap, drying properly, avoiding tight clothing, not shaving, and applying warm compresses may be all that is required.

How do you stop recurring Folliculitis?

Preventing folliculitis is often the best approach, particularly in cases where the infection is caused by bacteria. Some tips for preventing folliculitis:

    1. Keep your skin and scalp clean with natural antibacterial products. Using soap or wash that contains essential oil with antibacterial properties like Benchmark Thyme or Tea Tree can prevent bacterial infection on the skin and scalp.

    2. Use a clean washcloth and towel each time.

    3. Avoid wearing tight clothing that can trap sweat and bacteria.

    4. Use a clean razor. We suggest applying our Organic Benchmark Thyme Conditioner on dry skin before using your razor and then rinse off with clean running water.

    5. Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, razors, or clothing.

    6. As far as possible make sure the hot tubs, spas, and swimming pools you use are clean and well-maintained.
